Nokia 770 with the Opera browser

770
Originally uploaded by sitima.
Nokia launched a new web tablet for users looking for an easy and portable web surfing tool. It off course includes the excellent Opera browser, email, rss and according to: http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=1376&source=HOMETOP it will include VOIP and IM in the future.

Note that this device does not have mobile phone capabilities, it works on Wi-Fi. Looks like a great tool for surfing at home and when you are on the road. For me would be perfect to use when having a beer outside and i wish to read my Portuguese newspapers:)

Pardon my French...

Guerrilla Marketing

In the world of advertising many companies are making a name the untraditional way.

One company that has been doing so is goldenpalace.com, they have made a name from sponsoring streakers (Super Bowl, Olympics), buys overpriced exotic items on ebay and tattooing their URL in boxers or models bodies. They went so far as sponsoring a birth and a baby. Golden Palace stunts Website

Many will say that some of these actions are ridiculous or "unethical" but you can't deny that this has worked for them, run a small research on the number of articles that the media wrote about GoldenPalace and you have a priceless amount of promotion.

Recently Opera managed to get a great amount of exposure with a "swim" from Oslo to the US from our CEO, and there are many other examples. News articles on this stunt.

Playing the media is today a key factor for any company to succeed, and in a world of tabloids Guerrilla Marketing has an open way for success.

To be able to stream content via Wi-Fi from my PC to my TV through a game console is the key feature for me. M$ off course will make you buy XP Media Center to do this with the new Xbox 360 :( I hope that Sony supports an open platform and just deliver a simple to use application to send content to the PS3.
If the new PS3 or Nintendo Revolution support webcasts I have found my gadget:). Put the Opera browser for Home Media in one of these boxes with Opera's spacial navigation and the ability to render pages on TV screens and you get a killer Home Media application - Games, Video, Music, Photos Web Streaming and Internet! (wonder if they could also fit a TIVO like functionality there:) )

It was great to follow the game in the Portuguese pub and see the "Lagartos" and "Tripeiros" all going crazy. Those people don't support their teams they are just Anti-Benfica! VIVA O GLORIOSO!

Impulse buying...

DVD
Originally uploaded by sitima.
Morning starts with me going to the super market and seeing a pile of very cheap DVD's. I think let my self - "let me look just for the sake of it..." ended up buying Gladiator, Troy, Spider Man and Harry Potter for the price of 1 DVD.

Question I would get from many people would be, was this a good buy or the super market just cached in some extra 300 nok on you?
My answer: I don't really care:), added bonus is that Heidi loves Gladiator and Harry Potter so I score some points there also:)

Congrats

Congrats

My little Sofie is 1 month old! Im a "pai babado"!

Squash

Restarted playing squash! Its actually great to get the a good exercise and keep competitive in the Opera squash ladder. Funny how tech companies use wikis for everything... I know some people I would not trust to give them access to a wikified score tracking system... Anyway Im second in the ladder and gunning for Justin in the next couple of weeks.

Super Bock

If you go to Lisbon in the Summer ask for a Imperial (draught beer) of Super Bock and "Tremoos" (lupin seeds) or "Caracois" (snails) to go with it:) You will get into the Summer mood big time;)

Intro and Greek pita

When I moved to Norway I actually lost 10 kilos because of the cultural difference regarding food (I would not call Scandinavia the best place in the world to get a nice meal;) ). The solution I had to learn how to cook!

Little did I know but I love it, it's my moment of relaxing - cooking!

To introduce I post a simple Greek pita dish, served with minced meet, Tatziki sauce and Greek salad. Portuguese gang don't despair... soon Bacalhau com Natas, Caldeirada and many others...

Stay tune and I will introduce you to the Portuguese cuisine in the next posts...

PS: For all you thinking "You got to be kidding me???" (you know who you are;) ) I offer references... hehehehe

EUROVISION

EUROVISION

As I grow older I'm finally not afraid to admit that i watch the Eurovision song contest :) - http://www.eurovision.tv

I know all of you Europeans share this hidden feeling with me:) I just love those magic words: "l'Allemagne deux points"

This is it's happening in Kiev and you can watch the video for the Portuguese song here:
rtsp://real.rtp.pt/rtpfiles/videos/festival/2005_amar.rm

The interesting part is that in my work place with people from all over Europe everyone knows the Eurovision contest and all have the same memories as I do, I would have to vote Eurovision song contest for European show of my generation.

Congrats to Sporting

Jorge Palma

Going through my old CD's that I used to backup data from previous PC's i found a folder called Jorge Palma, you can imagine my happiness... Jorge Palma is a Portuguese singer that I really enjoy and it was great to get back in touch with my Jorge Palma mp3's. They are so old that I'm not sure if they are a backup from my CD or if they were downloaded from Napster itself:)
Do you think that a mp3 originally downloaded from Napster counts as an Internet relic? (or I'm I just a geek:) )

Opera's CEO swimming from Norway to the US

Opera's CEO swimming from Norway to the US

Opera released its version 8 a couple of weeks ago, in a PR stunt we announced that our CEO had promised internally to swim from Oslo to the US (stopping in his home country Iceland) if we reached 1 million downloads in 4 days.

Well... we did it and here is his adventure: www.opera.com/swim

The greatest thing is that this story was picked up by news sites all over the world, including news.com, ZD net, Slashdot and many others... Great work from our PR team!

Mourinho leads Chelsea to victory

Mourinho leads Chelsea to victory

Chelsea once again are champions in England, Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho lead them to this great win!

Like we say in Portugal "Ora tomem!"

Memories of a great day in June...

Memories of a great day in June...

This was a great day! Portugal was about to beat England in penalties in the Quarter Finals of the European Championship, I went with my father to the game and met Rui and Flip.

It was amazing how we made those arrogant English supporters shut up! Great game is the greatest Stadium of them all!!!
